Muddiest Point for 09/15 Lecture

I know we mentioned it a couple of times in class, and it was in our readings, but I still don't quite get what GNU is. Is it a type of operating system, or something else entirely?

  1. GNU has a couple of meanings. It was an alternate and free version of the Unix operating system. It has developed into a way of saying free software and alternate software. Most of the time when it is used it will refer to open source software, likely starting from its compatibility with the original GNU OS.

  2. Wow, thanks, that's the best definition out of anything I read and heard!
